Alternative Media Versus Corporate Mass Media

How many of us have heard this claim, or more accurately, the complaint that the USA, should be labeled as Corporate America

The same USA, which is declared and for so many considered the vanguard and champion of Democracy, the land of opportunities, where everyone gets a fair chance, and within this free democratic system, there are no laws, regulations, rules that restraint or hinder the chance of the individual, any individual, regardless of his skin color, ethnicity, religious faith (or absence of any religious faith for that matter), race or gender to try to move forward and achieve his target and goals in life

All this is most probably true, the freedom of expression is something that few can argue with, indeed, in theory everyone is given a free chance, has equal opportunities and all from what I hear this is very clearly mentioned and emphasized in the constitution

But when it comes to implementation, well, in practice that is a different matter, we all know that the country rules are discussed and voted upon in the legislative body, which is the United states congress, and I doubt there will be ever a clear effective mechanism,  which will be able to monitor and govern this process to ensure that the voters inside the congress vote according to their morality and ethics, after all, any legislation proposed, any congress member can easily justify his motivation to vote with and against such proposals, for every offered legislation will have its benefits and down sides, and any large corporation might see a proposed law according to his financial interests, and maybe others might see otherwise, or more often legislations will benefit large corporations, and in varying degrees hurt the interests of medium to small businesses, and the American working class

Now if the American legislative and executive branches take such directions, and this is most probable, after all most American politicians rely on donations to reach office, donations that are the most essential, effective part to run an efficient electoral campaign, and through those donations politicians are bounded to corporations, therefore the corporations have extreme leverage, corporations almost determine everything, corporations run the show

I can write about conspiracy theories and the theory of the “military industrial complex” but discussing conspiracy theories is not my thing, I do not fancy going that direction, I rather stay within the limits of what I have tangible in my hands, instead of assumptions, regardless how much they might seem realistic

But if the legislative and executive branches fall into the grip of corporate influence, which might make the public opinion aware that the Democracy Americans tend to enable them to decide their faith and protect their interests, after all the people are the source of power, who will warn them that they have been misled and suffer misrepresentation, who will make them aware, who leads the public opinion, who none other than the Media

And now, here we run into the same vicious circle, who runs the media, what is the most important factor that makes a media CORPORATION successful, Right, The finance, the more financial means a media enjoys, the more capacity is owns to be heard

And therefore, Media runs on advertisements, donations, financial aid, I doubt any media corporation owner or major talk holder will choose not to advance financially, after all, no matter how much we insist that the Media has a mission, its top priority is to earn money, let us not be naïve

And certainly, most of the media is biased, it might be a political party propriety media, or its leaders might have a certain political preference, which is most certainly based on financial calculations, or most will have deep interests with corporations, therefore, whether they like it or not, they will resort to demagogue, biased presentation of news, they will present the news from a certain angle and perspective, they will not necessarily have to lie or present fake news, therefore I believe that the term fake news is absurd and unrealistic, inaccurate and exaggerated, I believe they simply rather represent the news from a certain angle that is in convenience with their agenda, and every news has many sides of the stories, so it depends from which perspective you represent it

Now if the mass corporate media has huge enormous ability to either mislead or rather lead the general public opinion to a certain direction, and since larger political parties enjoy the coverage of the large media giants, while smaller parties are deprived from these means, and as I am an orthodox in insisting on the freedom of press to cover whatever news they choose without restraints, otherwise the opposite will lead to dictatorship, that means that the large political parties which have become only a reflection of corporate America, and that the monopoly of the corporate establishment is not only not fought against and resisted by the media, but even this monopoly is even more tightly established by mass media

Now lately came into play, in the age of globalism, the internet, the social media and the World Wide Web, what is known as alternative media has risen into the scene

But now, we have another problem, while the mass media will be more careful to be accurate in presenting information to the general public, because an inaccurate news is hard to go by unnoticed, and might even lead to legal complications and legal actions against it, especially that the competitor large media is monitoring and waiting for a chance to ridicule and focus upon

With Alternative media, the margin of error tolerance is much higher, on the internet, one can claim a lot of false unchecked information, conspiracy theories, and they might probably run through unnoticed, or in worst case scenario a blogger can simply delete his video or claim online, a writing screenshot by his opponent as proof might be denied on basis of claiming it is a photoshop fake picture, I think the internet rules are probably more flexible than a printed or TV rules towards professionals, a blogger might argue that he is an unprofessional amateur who is simply doing a hobby just like millions of citizens, therefore censorship on the internet is a sensitive approach that might be regarded as an oppression of the common citizen

Many have benefitted from this, a very famous conspiracy theorist when sued, because he had claimed that a mass murder is only a fake video, he said that he sometimes hallucinates, he is a very well-known right wing conservative American

We Armenians also have our own conspiracy theorists, one of us claims that All Democrat leadership are part of a Satanic globalist Freemasonic conspiracy, Vivid-19 vaccination is the 666 signature of Antichrist, and that globalists deliberately ruin his internet connection sometimes when he goes live, so that he does not tell us Armenians the great secrets

To conclude, Democracy is not perfect, it has a lot of flows, and the only way to make it perfect is through making the general public opinion aware, and not blindly biased

But Democracy is the best alternative and solution, or to be more precise, the least bad choice, any alternative is dictatorship and Hell, Abyss and Chaos
