The Necessity of dialog in times of tension, the secret behind the triumph of western democracies
Western Countries are arguably the most successful and advanced countries in the world
So many argue that the reason behind this success lies in the industrial capabilities of the west
That is true, naturally, but I think it is not the only reason, I think there is another very important reason behind its success, and that element is there democracy
When there are two much opposing ideas, the owners of these ideas do not resort exclusively or stick to their trenches and criticize and argue the opposing idea from far, in democracies, they finally resort to a face to face open public debate, where they are required to be restricted within the limits of a civil debate.
The one that gets aggressive most certainly loses the debate, that is a sign of tension, therefore weakness, they must express a controlled tough arguments, of course and naturally they do not get extremely polite and so often use tough tones, but they always should maintain composure and self-restraint
That is how democracies work, that is how nations evolve and stay in course.
Yesterday I watched Lebanese MTV Station, Mrs. Paula Yaacoubian has called the candidates of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation for a direct debate
As she assured on each of the twice class for debate, she reassured that this is not a challenge,
» ادعو هاكوب بقرادونيان وهاكوب ترزيان الى مناظرات مباشرة
If someone would argue that she is not sincere in her intentions, and she is in fact making a challenge, so what, the candidates of the ARF which is a historical experienced party, must be surely equally experienced and can handle such situations
If they argue that she does not have enough stamina to lead, let them come forward
They should not avoid, no one should avoid, especially after they made bold statements of self confidence
They referred to some with certain lack of qualities as far as I understood; everyone has the chance to defend himself/herself
Even Pirates within old times, whenever someone spelled the world “Parlais” they respected, they abided, and they listened and discussed
A while ago, a leader of the National Democratic Alliance in Armenia, Also invited the Armenian Revolutionary Federation for a debate, he even stated that he is ready to go to the studio of the ARF, Yerkir Media
I think debates are healthy, a transparent public debate, the people deserve to have a chance to judge for themselves
